The World's Greatest Detective Rated over 30 years

(1 minute read)

Conceived in New York City in 1939, this man was born into money but lives a dual life. After an early family tragedy, he committed his life to law enforcement and is now a beloved international hero.

He brought crime to an all-time low in the greatest city in the world, and he did it with his intellectual brilliance as well as his physical strength. They made movies and TV shows about him, and he holds one of the longest living film franchises in history. One of his films grossed over $533 million in the United States alone, and his success in Hollywood will continue to grow so long as people celebrate his legacy.

He carries many names including The World's Greatest Detective (my favorite), but we all know him as BAT-MAN. Here's a recap of 30 years of Batman with ratings from IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes.

Notes:

2016 (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) and 2017 (Justice League) were not great years for our Knight in dark armor. But the last time we saw two consecutive live-action Batman films underperform was between 1995 and 1997, almost 10 years before Christopher Nolan revitalized the sage with The Dark Knight trilogy. Perhaps we'll see the same revival in The Batman (2021) with director/writer Matt Reeves starring Robert Pattinson...

When we look at cartoon Batman, we need to take the reviews with a grain of salt. A lot of these films have not been watched by mass audiences. Some reviewers don't even bother to watch many animated movies, and it shows when you go on Rotten Tomatoes and find that 7 critics gave a Fresh rating to Under the Red Hood (2010), resulting in a 100% Rotten Tomato Score.

Not all the animated films are going to be a 10/10 - I can guarantee you that. But the Ten I've selected here are the more critically acclaimed films, so these are some good places to start if you're interested in watching or rewatching some of these works in your free time.
